I was scouring the world wide web for a meme to round up the year. Just ‘cos I didn’t wanna create one of my own. I found one and it’s below the continuation. But maybe I’ll make stuff up along the way. Let’s see.

Exercise in Gratitude – Day 8

I kinda realised 2 things a moment ago.

1. Today isn’t day 8, it’s actually day 9 because I forgot to post yesterday.
2. My previous calculation to do this until Dec 31 failed miserably because I must’ve somehow calculated wrongly.

But here goes anyway. I shall do for both today and yesterday since I missed yesterday.

The rules are that for 8 days you have to post something that made you happy that day.

Today is day 8 (Dec 30th).

1. I’m one article away from finishing my stuff for npTribune. Unless Xian Jie decides to give me more stuff. But I think not likely.
2. It’s 1 and a half days to 2009! Time to start anew in the new year and leave the mistakes and regrets of 2008 behind. Boy there were many.
3. I did my first feature shoot for hype yesterday. It was a smashing good time (at least from my perspective).
4. Today we fixed a date for MM meeting and I couldn’t be more relieved.
5. I spent the day filing the notes and tutorial stuff from the first half of the semester and now I’m ready for study sessions.
6. I’ve decided to leave the problems of 2008 behind at the end of 2008. I just had an idea to release a Kong Ming light on 31 Dec 2008 at 2359 hrs with a buncha words scribbled on it but I think that’s illegal in Singapore. So I shall just enjoy the moment when it comes.
7. At the end of this small little exercise that my dear Adrianna made me do (okay I volunteered), I’ve realised how the small joys in life keep you going and are the things you really look forward to each day.

Savour the little victories in life, or you’ll be a very miserable person.

Happy 2009 everyone.

Exercise in Gratitude – Day 7

The rules are that for 8 days you have to post something that made you happy that day.

Today is day 7 (Dec 28th).

1. I did my article today.
2. I found out I got 2 more CCA points for helping out at npTribune.
3. I’m doing a solo shoot for hype tomorrow at 10am. And I’m psyched!
4. I realised how good a rest I’ve had this holiday, and now I’m more ready than ever to go back to school.
5. Tomorrow’s Monday, the start of a new week!

A message from George Carlin.

I got this in a forwarded email and I thought, instead of forwarding it like everyone else, I’d blog it.

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways , but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life. We’ve added years to life not life to years. We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We’ve done larger things, but not better things.

We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We’ve conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We’ve learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete…

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn’t cost a cent.

Remember, to say, ‘I love you’ to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

1. I went to watch Yes Man today with Sandy. It was great!
2. Zooey Deschanel is in it and she’s awesome!
3. Today at the event I was covering for Tribune one of the photographers there talked to me about my flash bouncer. It was awesome!
4. I got my Tamrac Adventure 9 today for $145. 2nd hand, but it was good I feel. And it’s practically new.

The rules are that for 8 days you have to post something that made you happy that day.

Today is day 5 (Dec 26th, Boxing Day).

1. I got my battery grip today. For $120 with a free battery. 2nd hand but still.
2. I found a new shooting buddy. His name is Sunny and he sold me the grip. He shoots a 5D but ya that’s not important. He’s nice though. And from China I think. But nice is more important.
3. I got to play GTA4 for the first time today since Cabe got back.
4. It’s Boxing Day! Though we don’t really celebrate it here. But still.

That’s all!

Exercise in Gratitude – Day 4

The rules are that for 8 days you have to post something that made you happy that day.

Today is day 4 (Dec 25th, Christmas Day).

1. It’s Christmas!
2. Going to James’ place with Jarrel and Chee today was a blast.
3. I read something that made me feel like I’m not alone. And as a result, I’m looking forward to Hong Kong more than I ever have. Because it promises experience, a chance to discover myself, and most importantly, respite. A getaway from Singapore and the problems here.
4. Pap gave me $200 haha.
5. I’m known as ‘Cool Boy’ to James and his family now.

So anyway, today was already a great day. What made it ten times better was reading something posted on Ruiming’s blog. I haven’t popped by the HK attach-ees’ blogs in a while because I’ve been so caught up in Clubsnapping, but for some reason today I went by just to see what has changed.

Today I found out I’m not alone. And HK was a good decision and I’m going to have a great time there. Even more so than I previously imagined. Bon voyage indeed.

Merry Christmas everyone!

The rules are that for 8 days you have to post something that made you happy that day.

2. Pap didn’t get a bad news SMS today.
3. Christmas Eve dinner was fabulous (as usual)
4. I couldn’t think of what I wanted for Christmas so my mum’s giving me $200.
5. I think I know what I’ll do with the $200.
6. I’m beginning to let go.
7. It’s going to be Christmas in less than an hour’s time!
8. I got a whole buncha Christmas songs today and they’re awesome and cheery and cheering me up!
9. One of the songs is by Zooey Deschanel and her voice is pretty good!
10. Lots of cheery things today!

Merry Christmas everybody! :D God bless you all in the coming year.

Exercise in Gratitude – Day 2

The rules are that for 8 days you have to post something that made you happy that day.

Today is day 2 (Dec 23rd).

1. My mum and bro came back from Taiwan today safe and sound.
2. Advert meeting was fruitful today.
3. I met her today.
4. I had a good talk with my dad, just before Cabe and Mum came back.
5. The house is noisier now.

But today was also a terribly sad day. Today I found out that one of my cousins is in ICU with a burst blood vessel in her brain. Doc has told the family to prepare for the worst. It’s just terrible, even though my extended family really isn’t close at all. But she’s still family after all.

Life is really that fragile in the end. And we can be taken away just like that.

The rules are that for 8 days you have to post something that made you happy that day.

Today is day 1 (Dec 22nd).

One thing that made me happy today was hanging out with Joe and Ling. We hardly have time to meet and it’s always nice when we do. Plus we had extra company today so it was even better. Ah, old memories of AC. Nostalgic.

That was day 1.
