First Look: Switcheasy Colors for iPhone 3G/S

Today I picked up a Switcheasy Colors (damned American English) case for my iPhone 3G and this is the first look while I continue to play with it and get to know it a little better. I’ve heard quite a lot of good about this case while searching for ideas on the one perfect case I will ever need to use. This is a search that’s not easy in any case I assure you. You can tell by the number of Youtubers who post videos reviewing cases. It’s quite nuts.

I first saw this case on Jeremy’s iPhone, though I didn’t know what it was called at the time. His is the brown one with the green button on the extreme right in that pic above. So I did think of making videos and putting them on Youtube but I figured I’m better at writing than talking. So you will look at pictures and links and text and stuff instead. Here we go! Read More

Looking back and moving on.

ACS Barker

It is now the 1st of March, 2010, and for 10 years of my life I spent this day celebrating the anniversary of Anglo-Chinese School, the place where I grew up and learned how to be me.

Earlier tonight I spent a significant amount of time reading through the old blog posts on josh.nkN, from entries made while I was in Hongkong to those from the first semester after Wuhan, dating all the way back to October of 2008. It has been an amazing journey.

It has been a long time for all of us.

This post isn’t meant to be quite as sentimental as it is becoming, I think. But anyway, what I hope to do within the next few days is relive some of the former glory this blog used to have (as much as it had, anyway). So just like back in 2008, this will begin with a shoutout to all who still read this page to leave a comment just to say hi. This space is about to get more interesting. I guarantee it.

Sadly, work was my life.

There we have it ladies and gents, save results and the graduation ceremony, 3 years in NP have ended. It’s been quite a journey.

It’s hard to believe it’s already all over. Without risk of sounding sentimental (because I think I’m really happy to be leaving rather than sad) the time’s passed way too fast. But that’s not the problem.

Now that we don’t have to go to school, are relieved of work and exams are done and so on, I am bored.

Playing FIFA only occupies me for so long (after playing for what, 7 seasons I’m kinda reaching the end already anyway) and my body clock’s skewed waaaay off. Sleeping at 3am and waking up at 2pm without consequence is nice though, I admit.

So just like I do for school, I’m going to create a list of stuff that I want to do, just to give me some direction. Let’s go! Read More

The last day of 2009

Oh boy I better do this one fast. It’s the end of the year people! Last day! I don’t think I’ll be setting any New Year Resolutions, but here’s to a whopping 2010!

May it be a happy one for everybody. Happy New Year!

A decision has been made.

I just decided that come Jan 1, 2010, I will begin a new A Photo A Week project. Hope to be able to keep it up, except of course for those weeks I’m confined in NS. May be quite a few, but we’ll see what we can do.

A three-sentence post. Nice.

Smells like festive spirit

Forgive the cliched title, I couldn’t help myself.

In the midst of this festive season, you begin to ponder. You think about the year gone by (and what a year it’s been indeed!), the perils of the year ahead, and more or less everything in between. Whatever that means.

I’m not gonna pretend like this blog is still active because it isn’t. Sadly. But for those of you who are still here from time to time (kudos to you!) here’s wishing you a very happy 2010 ahead.

But before the year’s up, I think I have some work to do. Bummer.

A day in the life

Look at that, Week 6 is over.

I’m getting good at one-line leads. They’re just so classy.

I would apologise for the lack of posts but I don’t think anyone really reads anyway (because of the lack of posts) so there. It’s Hari Raya Haji today so I’m on a little bit of a break and will type something here before I go off and play FIFA 10 (‘cos that’s what you do on holidays).

It’s been hell on earth. Not literally fireballs and molten lava but giant walking horse-shaped Piñatas that storm towards you at full speed and when you hit them, crack open and unleash a world of hurt in the form of assignments. I wish that wasn’t a metaphor.

On the bright side though, we’ve finally put Tribune 1 to bed. I’ve got quite a bunch of bylines in there so I’m really looking forward to it actually. Hitting news stands all around NP from December 8.

On another brighter note, the Inter Polytechnic Debating Championship was last weekend (21-22 November) and for the first time in 8 years, an NP team broke to the semi’s. That team comprised Reuben, Nicholas and me. (I almost capitalised me). Although we didn’t make it to the finals, I’m still going to write a story about the re-emergence of the NP Debating Club for npTribune. Coming out in Tribune 2, hitting news stands all around NP in February.

Other than those two occurrences, life’s been pretty mundane on the whole. Had to stay over at the Loft twice in order to get Tribune done, and it’s mostly been assignment after assignment followed by (you guessed it) more assignments.

Thinking of it makes me sick. I’m gonna go play FIFA now. But one last thing…

Changes

In light of this post’s title, I tried googling who the person that said “change is the only constant” is. That search failed, but the quote still stands.

Anyway this wasn’t meant to be an emotional post or anything. Just doing a bit of publicity here, because I’ve updated my about, photo arsenal and wishlist pages.

On a side note, I’m thrilled to watch my voice recorder charge. I’ve christened it Perry R.

Two posts in one night! Wow that’s so BOOMZ. (Couldn’t get away without using it at least once now could I?)

Start of something new?

Right then, I’ve officially ended my stint at Youth.SG for now. I’ll still be a contributor writer but for obvious reasons it can’t be full time anymore and that means… NO PAY!

I must say though that it’s been tremendous fun writing for a youth magazine for a change.

(disappears for 9 hours)

(reappears)

Okay so I’m back! Where was I. Right, tremendous fun writing for a youth mag. Well it was nice to be able to write in a relaxed fashion (which I never do except on my blog) and more or less not have to worry about style or tone.

Anyway, school starts on Monday. I guess I’m prepared. Not much else I can do I suppose, that’s what I mean. I only have a couple days of freedom though, and today’s already over so just one left.

I did a terribly awesome bit of shopping today. Okay it was hardly a bit, but shopping with Mum makes it all better!

It’s a long story though so I’ll cut it short. In a nutshell I ended up buying 3 things: a shaver (‘cos mine broke), a dry cabinet (‘cos they’re awesome and keep my camera stuff dry and HELLZ YEAH) and a voice recorder (as an investment ‘cos well, I’m tired of writing. So there)

On a separate note, may be time to update my wishlist. But no rush on that I guess. Not like I’ll ever run outta things to want.

So yes! I’m all set for the new and last semester. Kickass! The next post might just be the back to school first day post. Not that I’m obligated to write one.

Meeting Denise Keller

For some reason I feel compelled to blog about this experience, because I find it quite amazing and I’m truly excited about the things that I get to do as a journalist. But lest this blog become a list of the things I get to do at my job (although I don’t really know who reads anyway), I shall hold back.

Anyway, on to the story.

Yesterday, I attended the press conference for this year’s World Contraception Day where shocking results of a sex survey were released (for more details look here). Fast forward to the end of the press conference and Denise Keller was picking out name cards for a lucky draw. Now I was switching off by then because the Youth.SG name card is smaller than usual name cards but somehow or other, mine was picked.

Once that happened (because it rarely does), you won’t easily forget our card because it’s so unique and special. In fact, everyone who receives one of our cards comments that it’s very cute. So it was nice and memorable, I guess, and I got a $50 Supperclub voucher for it, which was nice.

So I thought that was it, the end. After all there wasn’t anything left to do right? Wrong. Somehow or other, the PRs managed to get me to stay and take a picture with Denise. And after an interview with Mobtv (because I indicated I needed to leave), I stepped up to take a picture with her and lo and behold, she remembered my name!

We chat a little, and finally snapped a picture before I left, but it was really quite an interesting experience, especially because she seems like the bubbly enthusiastic kind, but she got so solemn and serious when talking about sex education (the topic at hand).

Once again I’m gonna brag (at least for now) about the things I get to do at my job. And this post must end now, but I leave you with a picture. The only one that matters, really. Enjoy!
